Every year in October, San Francisco celebrates the US Navy and Marines with Fleet Week. This year we had exceptionally warm and clear skies to get the best views of the accompanying Air Show featuring the Blue Angels (six F18s piloted by Ace Top Guns that fly as close as 18″ tip to tip at speeds exceeding 800 mph).
Many years ago I was able to capture 35mm slides using a Nikon with a super long lens and stationed right up close. Back then they were flying A4-F Skyhawk II jets. Presently grandstand tickets for the show are as much $250 and it’s a traffic mess of grid lock to get out of there. With this in mind, and not having the proper pro gear to give justice to these flying Top Guns, I took what I had on hand and created this homemade tribute in my “Not-A-Studio-Space” in Richmond.
