I took this clip when we were walking the Tongariro Crossing in NZ recently. The lake, high on a volcanic complex, is in a depression and behind a ridge, so it’s a sort of backside zone. The wind was 40 – 50 mph at times. The clip shows the powerful wind rotors whipping up the surface of the water, and although video doesn’t capture the power as much as seeing it first hand, it gives an idea of the massive cyclonic swirls that are happening in messed up backside rotors … no wonder heavy DS ships get sucked down.
